As you may know, in Eastern parts of the world, dragons are believed to symbolise power, strength, and good fortune. However, I didn’t realise until recently that they are also seen as water dwellers, living in secret seaside caves or next to secluded lakes, where they are even believed to be capable of gifting rainfall. This image is in stark contrast to their Western depiction, where they are shown as fire-breathing, land-dwelling, dinosaur-type beasts who are out to devour any humans that they may encounter. I think I prefer the Asian version; they sound far more friendly and peaceful. We’re lucky enough to meet some mysterious creatures in the PG slot I’ll review today. It's titled Dragon Hatch 2 and is a medium volatility, 5-reel, 5-row video slot featuring an RTP of 96.76% and a potential maximum win of 2,500x.
As you may have guessed by the number two in the title of this game, this is, of course, a sequel. It follows up on the raging success of the original Dragon Hatch, so first of all, let’s have a quick stat comparison between the two. The main difference that initially jumps out is the maximum win on offer, with the original coming in at 15,000x and the sequel at just 2,500x; the RTP has also dropped very slightly, from 96.83% to 96.76%. However, don’t despair just yet, as some significant improvements have also been made. The first comes in the form of the graphics, which have received a noticeable uplift and are sumptuously bright and colourful. Gameplay-wise, we now benefit from the introduction of a sticky wild that has been placed in the middle of the 5x5 grid, where it is permanently fixed for every spin.
As someone who enjoyed the first Dragon Hatch, my initial impressions are that this latest version is a genuine improvement, and I’m loving it so far. What do you think? Is this even better than the original? Check out the Dragon Hatch 2 demo slot below and decide for yourself; it’s free to play!

When a provider creates a game that proves to be as popular as Dragon Hatch, you can understand why they would then go on to make a sequel. As a player, at that point, you’re just hoping that they can do the game you enjoy justice rather than ruining it. I’ll let you decide how that’s panned out in this instance, but once you’ve made your judgement, why not try one of PG Soft's other cluster-style games? Alchemy Gold is an excellent place to start. Its cluster pays with a difference; any symbols involved in a win remain on the grid while the reels spin again, allowing more to be added to the group, potentially until the whole screen is filled! Or, if you want even more freedom, try Lucky Clover Lady, as its scatter pay mechanism means that you won’t need the symbols to be connected to get paid; they can appear in any position on the grid! Make sure you try those slot games out soon, but for now, join me in finding out more about Dragon Hatch 2 as I head over to the pays section.
You’ll need to match 22 or more of the same symbol to achieve their highest pay value in Dragon Hatch 2, and that’s almost a full screen so that it won’t be an easy task, but in fairness, the prizes on offer reflect that. The top symbol is the Dragon's Eye, which returns a massive 2,000x the total stake value for 22+ symbols. Following that, there are the Earth, Water, and Fire dragons, which will all pay 400x, and that just leaves the non-premium symbols, the Spade, Club, Heart, and Diamond, all with payouts of 200x for a cluster of 22 or more.
There are a lot of stake options to choose from on Dragon Hatch 2. These start from a low of €0.20 and rise to a high of €100.00, with plenty of graduated increments in between. With so many choices, there’s sure to be a suitable selection for almost everyone.
There are no paylines to restrict us on Dragon Hatch 2, as all that’s needed to achieve a win is to match at least four of the same symbols touching in a cluster anywhere on the screen. These can be formed in any shape or direction. Any symbols involved in a win will be removed from the grid, creating space for further symbols to drop into play from the top of the reels, hopefully helping to create further wins. The sticky wild that is always located in the centre of the grid will count as one of the symbols if it is touching the formation.
Whilst there isn't a specific free spins bonus round that can be triggered on Dragon Hatch 2, there is a collection meter that can activate in-game modifiers. Let's check out what these are below.
Above the main reels, a collection bar graphic is displayed. The number of symbols involved in any winning combination will be added to this bar, and several feature activations will occur once it reaches a specific number, as described below. The progress of this bar will reset at the end of each spin.
The headline here is the drop in maximum win and RTP in this sequel from the original. However, it’s never advisable to judge a book by its cover. Dig a little deeper here, and you will soon find that PG Soft has done a great job; this is a definite improvement on what was already a very enjoyable game.
The graphical uplift is massively noticeable, and the gameplay, in general, feels even smoother. The reduction in the top end appears to have allowed mid-value payouts to become more frequent. This is evident during the base game, as sizeable hits seem far more achievable. This adds to the entertainment value, as does the added sticky wild added to the centre of the grid to assist with wins that contribute to growing the collection bar, whose features activate regularly.
It's pleasing to see that the right balance between making changes and retaining the positive aspects of the first game has been struck, and this is a worthy sequel that fans will really enjoy.
